On this particular tune I wanted it to sound like when rock and roll was young and you heard that garage band down the street fire up. It’s that loose feel like the Rolling Stones. It’s the kind of thing that gives rock and roll its name. It sounds fresh with lots of enthusiasm and excitement, and a little ruff around the edges., like it’s being played for the first time.
The Stones are the undisputed masters of making a song that’s been played a thousand times sound like the first time it’s been played. The yeah's, da's and na's were there in the beginning because I didn’t have any words to fit in, then it reminded me of Lucy in the Peanuts cartoons on the telly, when she gets mad at Charlie Brown you never hear what she says they just put up *@&% and you hear that horn and you let your imagination do the rest. So that’s what you’ll have to do in this tune.
When you’re listening to it, tell me, can’t you see Mick, strutting on stage, doing this one with Charlie Watts and the guys backing him up?
However, even though this is a Stones-esque song, there are a few McCartney-isms on the bass, and it was recorded to have a live performance feel to it. This is one that is really fun to play live.
Well, I’ve said enough, so I hope you have as much fun listening to it as I did recording it. Enjoy.
Yeah E yeah E yeah yeah

I got something to tell ya and it’s bad news
I found out you’re a liar, right down to your shoes. You told me that you loved me.
I clung to every word, but people like to whisper, And this is what I heard.
Yeah e yeah e yeah yeah, Yeah e yeah e yeah
Yeah e yeah e yeah yeah, Yeah e yeah e yeah
Yeah e yeah e yeah yeah, Yeah e yeah e yeah
Yeah e yeah e yeah yeah, Yeah e yeah e yeah
For pure cane sugar, You ain’t that sweet
Honey you should watch, the company that you keep. Your sisters done some talk’n. Yes, she filled my head. She took me out to dinner
And this is what she said.
Da da Da da Da da, Da da Da da Da..
Da da Da da Da da,Da da Da da Da.
Da da Da da Da da, Da da Da da Da.
Da da Da da Da da, Da da Da da da
Well enough is enough, And I’ve had enough
I’ve had enough of you. I cant understand it,
Why you don’t under stand it. When I tell you
That we’re through.
Na na Na na Na na, Na na Na na Na.
Na na Na na Na na, Na na Na na Na.
Na na Na na Na na, Na na Na na Na
Na na Na na Na na, Na na Na na Na
Yeah e yeah e yeah yeah, No No No No No
This one was written after I had a break up and is basically about wanting the powers that be to get her to reconsider and get back together.
The Glockenspiel was inspired from McCartney’s “Riding to Vanity Fair” I put it in as more of a tipping of the hat to the Master.
Tears Away

Rain drops, on my window pane,
Wash my tears away.
Sunrise bring a brand new day,
Find me a new way to survive.

Send a warm and gentle breeze
To blow my cares away

Blue sky, can’t be bluer than I,
Since you went away.
Wide awake late at night,
You can hear me pray.

Send my lover back to me,
So my heart can breathe

Made a wish in a wishing well
Just the other day
Here’s the wish I wished
And the prayer, I prayed.

Tell her heart to change its mind
And send her back to me.

Rain drops, on my window pane,
Wash my tears away.
Sunrise bring a brand new day,
Find me a new way to survive.

Send a warm and gentle breeze
To blow my cares away

Send my lover back to me,
So my heart can breathe

Tell her heart to change its mind
And send her back to me.
Ok, this is one of those nonsense songs, is it really deep? Or, is it saying anything at all? Well, there really is meaning, you just have to look within and find it for yourself, Grasshopper. For me this is my feeble attempt to model The Cars. I wanted it to be a Rick Ocasek “Moving in Stereo” kind of thing. I really love The Cars. A friend of mine said it sounded like The Cars meet Magical Mystery Tour. And, there’s this George Harrison influenced string section. The one thing I am proud of is being able to work in the line “precociously perceptive.” I heard it when the telly was on in the background and General Hospital was on; It was a line that the character Luke Spencer said, and it caught my attention and I knew I had to work it into a song. Now I know how Paul McCartney felt when he was able to work the word Peradventure into his song “English Tea”.
The More Things Change

Turn me inside out
And upside down
The truth is there and it must be found

Open all the windows
But close all the doors
You’re trying to fight it
But you know you want more.

The more things change
The more things stay the same

Precociously perceptive
To everyone’s pain.
Obviously obvious
To her oncoming train.

She’s overly cautious
I heard someone say
But that light in the tunnel
Is headed your way.

The more things change
The more things stay the same

It’s been a long while
And I’ve missed your voice
I stayed away
‘Cause you gave me no choice.

It’s been too long
Since I felt your touch
I let you go
‘Cause I love you too much

The more things change
The more things stay the same
